Reverse Zones setup
Question asked by Pete Watters - February 22, 2016 at 4:56 PM
Answered
Local DNS Server

I created a Forward Zone "CSMICORP.COM" and I want to create a Reverse Zone for this Forward Zone
I am using a class B IP address 172.16

Is the Entry for the secondary zone  16.172.in-addr-.apra

If these is documentation that shows hot to set this up and explains it I would appreciate it

Yes that is correct.

In the "DNS Records" window, click the "New" button, then select "Primary Zone" and click "Next", select "Reverse zone" and click "Next", select "IPv4" and click "Next", enter 16.172.0.0 and select subnet mask "255.255.0.0" and click "Finish".

I should not have said secondary zone in my question I want to setup a Primary Reverse Zone

Primary Zones -
Forward zone (only one) CSMICORP.COM
Reverse Zone
I created one using IP address 172.16.0.1
mask 255.255.0.0/16  (What does the /16 mean)
The zone name came out to be 16.172.in-addr-arpa

When I crate a A Record I want a reverse zone record to be created at the same time

Yes, I figured you meant primary reverse - that is what the previous instructions were for.

Look good.

Yes - simply check the checkbox in the lower left corner of the A-record dialog to do so.
